The P220 was developed in 1975 for the Swiss Army by SIG Sauer to
replace their SIG P210 which was adopted right after World War 2.
Subsequently, other nations started to adopt the P220, which included
the Japanese Self-Defense Forces which adopted the P220 as the Minebea
P9 in 1982. This particular P220 airsoft gun is a faithful replica of
the service sidearm of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF).
This
P220 is a heavy-weight gas airsoft pistol made by Tanaka Works. Due to
Japanese regulations regarding airsoft guns, Japan cannot produce
full-metal airsoft pistols, therefore this airsoft pistol is actually
made of polymer. However, since this is a heavyweight model, this
airsoft pistol is weighted, and you really couldn’t tell that it is made
of polymer even when holding the gun!
This airsoft gun has all
the correct markings in Kanji noting that this is not a regular P220 but
it is the sidearm of the JMSDF making this quite a unique piece to own.
The controls of the gun are somewhat the same as the P226 since it has
the decocker and slide release in the same place as you would find on
the P226, except for the fact that this pistol has a heel magazine
release instead of a thumb release found on most modern-day pistols.
The
Tanaka SIG P220 JMSDF comes with a 20-round magazine that will also
work with other Tanaka P220 magazines, please do note that although you
could use green gas with this gas airsoft pistol, it is recommended to
use HFC134A or duster gas to power this pistol as green gas may increase
the wear and tear on this airsoft pistol.
