DMR stands for Designated Marksman Rifle, it is a modified version of M14 with enhanced accuracy and range. As a long range weapon, it beats M40 due to its semi-automatic mode; and it also beats its sister M16A4, as it takes 7.62 ammo (thus better accuracy at long range).
